1028SC Seed Collecting Practicum

Saturday, October 28 (rain date Saturday, November 4)

10 am-1 pm

Seed Cleaning Workshops: Wednesday, January 10 and Saturday, January 13, 10 am-1 pm

Join Michael Hannen in his home-based nursery in Rochester’s Upper Monroe neighborhood to help collect seed from his display gardens, which are planted with a huge variety of unusual and choice plants. You will learn about the proper timing for collecting seed from different plants, how to dry and process the seed, and how and when to plant it for good germination. The seed will be donated to the RCGC January Seed Swap, but you will have your pick during the workshop of seed of Michael’s outstanding varieties. Directions will be emailed before the class. There will be two follow-up classes at Warner Castle for cleaning the seed: Wednesday, January 10, 10 am-1 pm (0110SC), and Saturday, January 13, 10 am-1 pm (0113SC).

For the October 28 Seed Collecting practicum, it would be very helpful if you collect and bring some large-sized paper grocery bags.

Free and open to the public.
