0819SS Structured Spaces, Inviting Places

Saturday, August 19

10:30 am-12:30 pm

The backbone of a good landscape design is typically provided by evergreens and shrubs, but under some conditions they are difficult to grow. But how do you structure the space without them? In this class, landscape designer Christine Froehlich will address this and more. Faced with a beating western sun and relentless winter winds in her Sodus Point garden, she had to get creative about protecting her house and plants from the elements. She has constructed fences, arbors, stone paths, a patio and a pergola which divide her gardens into several distinct ‘rooms’. In this class in her garden you will learn how to interweave structures and plants to achieve privacy, comfort and beauty. Dubbed ‘the flower house’ by the neighbors, the gardens now provide a welcoming entrance to the house, a private backyard paradise, and a relaxing place to sit and visit. Directions will be emailed before the class.
