0810GE Gardening with Edibles

Thursday, August 10

6:30-8:30 pm

Artist and RIT instructor Nancy Marrer believes that edibles are beautiful and that vegetables don’t need to be in rows. She grows much of the produce that her family eats throughout the year on her 3-acre Penfield property by integrating edibles and ornamentals pretty much all over the yard. There are fruit trees, nut trees, cane fruits, grapes, and all sorts of vegetables, even mushrooms and peanuts; the terms organic, sustainable, permaculture, integrated, complementary, companion planting, and runoff mitigation could all be applied to her gardening principles. There are lots of perennial edibles, many annual vegetables are allowed to reseed themselves amongst the flowers, and there are always trial gardens to test different methods and varieties. Come for a tour with Nancy of her fascinating way of making the most of your landscape. Directions will be emailed before the class.
