Saturday, April 15
9 am-12 noon
You may register for this 4/15 class, including online below.
(The session listed in the catalog is now full: Saturday, April 8, 9 am-12 noon. Registration is closed for 4/8)
In this hands-on outdoor workshop with certified permaculture gardener Nancy Marrer at her home in Penfield, you will learn all you need to know to grow your own shiitake mushrooms in your backyard: selecting the best wood to use for growing mushrooms; where to get mushroom spawn; how to inoculate, wax, tag and stack mushroom logs; shiitake growing cycles; and care and maintenance of the logs. Best of all you will go home with your very own inoculated log and all the knowledge you need to cultivate the mycelium so your logs will fruit delicious shiitake mushrooms in your yard. Nancy will also demonstrate how to create a wine cap (Stropharia) mushroom forest bed and you’ll go home with some mycelium to inoculate your own bed. She’ll demonstrate creating an oyster totem, and conduct a tour of her farm to show you how easy it is to turn a backyard into a mushroom-growing heaven. Limit 12. Directions will be emailed before the class.
Note that this is a new session taking place on April 15. The April 8 session listed in the catalog is full.
