0302IP The Importance of Invasive Plants, and Strategies for Control

Thursday, March 2

7-8:30 pm

Elimination of non-native invasive plants is both challenging and important. Not only do invasives degrade the aesthetics of your property and reduce its value, they also pose the primary threat to the populations of song birds, butterflies and all types of wildlife that we enjoy. Invasives have characteristics that allow them to grow almost anywhere and dominate their surroundings to the exclusion of native plants. Instructor Jim Engel (owner of White Oak Nursery in Canandaigua, specializing in native trees and shrubs), has been working in the field of invasive plant control for many years, with state and federal agencies, not-for-profit groups, and private landowners. In this class you will learn about the importance of invasives, how to identify them, and various strategies for efficient and effective control.
